Shamrock Rovers hatten im Vergleich zur Niederlage in Albanien am Donnerstag stark rotiert, nur 3 Spieler aus der Startelf gegen Egnatia standen auch am Sonntag in der Startformation. Das schien zun\u00e4chst zu funktionieren, Rovers f\u00fchrten zur Pause durch Tore von Jonathan Afolabi und Michael Noonan mit 2:0 und sahen auch in der zweiten H\u00e4lfte zuerst so aus, als ob sie das nach Hause bringen. St. Patrick&#8217;s Athletic wurde aber nach dem Anschlusstreffer durch Luke Turner in der 54. Minute st\u00e4rker und der Ausgleich schien nicht unrealistisch. Ein Foulelfmeter in der Nachspielzeit brachte diesen Ausgleich dann, Rovers-Torh\u00fcter Ed McGinty war zwar am Schuss von Aidan Keena dran, der Ball ging aber trotzdem rein und das Spiel in die Verl\u00e4ngerung. In der 95. Minute drehte der 17-j\u00e4hrige Sam Rooney mit dem Treffer zum 3:2 dann endg\u00fcltig. Titelverteidiger Shamrock Rovers ist damit raus, St. Patrick&#8217;s Athletic wohl zumindest Mitfavorit auf den Pokalsieg. In allen anderen Partien der Runde setzten sich die Premier Division-Teams durch, im Falle von Galway United allerdings erst im Elfmeterschie\u00dfen.
